Sparked by concerns following the lifting of an excommunication on Lefebvrist bishop Williamson, the encounter confirmed the importance of Jewish relations with the Holy See. Haifa Chief Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen noted that: "This was not just another meeting. This was . . . a turning point, the end of a crisis. We could not have expected a warmer reception."
