Launch

This weekend is orientation for the new school year. We have 23 new men in the house, of whom 7 of us have been studying Italian here for the last three weeks.

Friday night we came together for Vespers followed by a barbecue out in the garden.

Citronella candles filled the patio

While beer was served, in Italy even a barbecue requires red wine . . .

Father William from County Cork supplied us after dinner with Irish Coffee . . .

We believe there's coffee in there somewhere-

We set off early this morning for a Mass in the crypt of Saint Peter's.

New Men hitting the plaza

Our Mass was in the Hungarian Chapel.

Monsignor Kelly presided in the Mass of Saints Peter and Paul

We then had a tour of the Gianiculum--the seminarians' residence just up the hill from Saint Peter's--opened with an American breakfast including pancakes and bacon!

Topics this afternoon back at the house covered the basics--including how to register for classes!

I think I would like Italy, as my idea of what to drink at a barbecue is red wine. I had to bring Father Foos a second bottle of New Clairvaux Zinfandel, as my friends and I drank the bottle I brought to the City Gates barbecue, before he tasted any.

You guys could drink that Irish coffee, because you didn't have to drive home.

love, Dad

Wow, that fire pic reminds me of us trying to capture the flames at the party we had after your ordination:) Great pics...now, a bit o' the Irish while in Italy is very appropriate I'd say! :) Hi to Mom and Dad for me.

Awesome pictures, Padre! Made me think we should have a "Padre Avram" board posted at OLM & I could print your blog for those that don't blog or use 'puters!

Hmmm...were YOU responsible for the fire -- it does resemble those Easter fires at OLM -- Remember??? The ones that had, how many fire engines arrive for our Easter Vigil?? I figured you just wanted to make sure & not leave those poor working firemen out of such an exceptional celebration! heh?

I thought red wine was at every meal in Italy -- beer or no beer!

Gotta Love the IRISH!

Maybe you can be in front of the camera sometimes, too?

Ooooooh St. Peter's...great memories!!!
