There’s one major problem with my sightseeing in England.
It looks just like my sightseeing in Egypt, Jordan, and Israel.
With my first trip to London leading to the British Museum, the artifacts there looked remarkably familiar.
Very old, and very Middle Eastern.
“Egypt me!” you exclaim, as you scroll through these new shots.
But you’d be wrong. These are Assyrian.
At least until you get back outside. Down the street you find the much more contemporary Oratory of Saint Philip Neri.
Near which you’ll find this statue commemorating Newman, whose beatification may be just around the corner.
Not this corner, though: down the street you find the Natural History Museum. With some artist’s conception of what it looks like to enter into Earth Studies.
Having arrived back in Rome a week ago, these photos are themselves becoming history . . . but I’ll have more soon from Northern England.

Very cool. My kids are half Assyrian. You confirmed what I thought driving on the 5 North through LA today too. There is a shopping district there that has huge pillars with the Aššurbanipal winged horse guy on each of them.I thought that looked familiar. (-: What is the actual name for that figure?? Bet you I'll Google it before you can tell me! Ready...Set....GO!!!
