Meal for a Day, Food for Life

Every once in a while you come across an idea so brilliant you ask, 'Why wasn't that thought of before?'.

Combined with the fact that this one comes from Scotland, so you can read about it with the voices of Braveheart, and you have an incredible combination.

Mary's Meals has been picking up momentum since its founding based on a simple concept: in the desperately poor regions of the world, what is needed is not only a meal for today, but the formation for a future. Combining those two elements, Mary's Meals creates what so many parents long for, but have been unable to provide for their children. By providing a daily meal in the school setting, the project ensures for children the ability to continue (or even begin) in school, where before when famine struck, education was the first thing to be lost.

This innovative combination moves beyond the conflict between providing help for today or for the long term, by opening the door for one by supporting the other. Amazingly, feeding about 375,000 children today, Mary's Meals does this at a cost of about $13 per year per student.

Click over to the brief video clips to catch a glimpse of what is already happening today, and what you can be a part of for a little more than a dollar a month. From Albania to Zambia, you can help change the world.
