Twice now this week we've had major downpours here in Florence. Wednesday during our afternoon class it started to rain in buckets (piove a catinelle, in Italian) and of course I'd left my window open back at the room.
Turns out the bigger problem when I got home was the rest of the house--the landlady had mopped inches of water out of some of the other rooms, and had lifted up the carpets to dry. The worst storm in quite some time, said one of the ladies.
Again today around the same time it started pouring (almost out of nowhere, because half an hour before I'd been out buying lunch and there was plenty of blue sky). Maybe I'm learning a lot of Italian, because I hadn't learned to close my window . . .

Were the inches of water in the other rooms from your window, or from other windows -- or the roof leaking?
And why were you learning a lot of Italian because you left your window open? Was the landlady scolding you?
Some of the water came in through the windows, I think, but luckily not mine because the landlayd had closed it. But some of it I think came in because of the design of the patio and exterior.
Learning a lot of Italian was just to say that my mind must be caught up in that because I hadn't thought to close the window again. Actually the landlady herself seemed kind of pleased at the adventure of the storm and it's aftermath!
