That's sure what God did when he wanted to bring joy to the world--he made Mary! Happy Birthday of our mother--from Asia Minor, where she celebrated her final birthdays here on earth.
And she's the one whose prayers can change the landscape here today, sprinkled liberally with these new spires:
For Mary's birthday we celebrated Mass in a church carved into the side of a mountain--how long ago we don't know: possibly the 800's. The imagery is from early in the Church's life.
The Cross as Triumphal Arch.
There was no artificial lighting.
So this roof was helpful.
Another early cross showed it encircled with a crown--revealing the reward of the one who trusted in the cross.
You can also see it's elevated on a pole--like Jesus' prophecy in John 3:14.
Several of our class from Mexico presided today.
The sun had set by the time we finished.
Our hike back.
